An engagement session in one of my favorite places in Lisbon: Monsanto. The narrow pastel-colored streets of Lisbon are beautiful, the light is magical, but I have a deep connection with nature, and Monsanto also feels like home. Having lived so many years on this side of the city has allowed me to explore these woods thoroughly.
Every year, I try to publish a "best of the year" selection. But the truth is, it’s already April and so far… nothing. And it’s starting to feel like it won’t happen. It’s not that I don’t want to share or go through that process—it’s just that I have to admit it’s one of the hardest things to do. Twelve months full of beautiful things, people who filled my heart, emotional weddings… and choosing between all of that isn’t easy.
On top of that, I had the feeling that if I compared the years… 2014 might come out on top. I can’t even explain why I feel that way. But now that I’ve been sharing more of what I photographed in 2015, I’m realizing it was a truly beautiful year, with moments and people who filled my heart.
Mariana and Eduardo were part of one of the most beautiful weddings I’ve ever photographed. From the very start of the day to the end, their wedding was stunning—filled with absolutely wonderful details and surrounded by family and friends with an energy that was contagious. And during the engagement session, it was lovely to see them relax and just be themselves—their jokes with each other, the connection in the way they look at one another, the way they talk and smile.
If I had to choose one word to describe the work I do, it would be connection. The connection I want to build with the people I photograph, and the connection I want them to show. I’m not looking for sultry looks or poses straight out of a Vogue cover. I want authenticity, tenderness, and that invisible thread that ties two people together. Eyes never lie—and that’s what I want them to reveal… Connection.
