This family photo session in Retiro Park was one of those autumn afternoons that felt almost too beautiful to be real. Riley first contacted me looking for a meaningful gift for her in-laws and the idea quickly turned into a relaxed extended family photoshoot with grandparents, siblings, partners and two little ones delighted with the colorful fall leaves.
November in Madrid can be absolutely magical and on this particular day Retiro was glowing with warm yellow and red tones, soft sunlight, and that calm atmosphere that makes everything feel extra special. It's definitely my favorite season!
Extended family sessions can sometimes take a little time to settle into, especially when there are babies and toddlers involved, but this one flowed so naturally from the very beginning. We spent the afternoon slowly walking through Parque El Retiro, stopping whenever the light or a sweet family interaction caught our attention.
What I loved most was how relaxed everyone was. There was no pressure to pose perfectly or constantly look at the camera, instead, the session became more about enjoying time together and documenting this stage of their family life in an honest way. But of course, I always provide moments for a few poses, because I know those will be the ones that will be printed and framed!
Over these last two years, I’ve photographed many families visiting and living in Madrid, and Retiro continues to be one of my favorite locations for family photo sessions. It offers the perfect balance between nature, beautiful architecture, quiet corners and iconic Madrid scenery, especially during fall. My approach is always documentary and relaxed, gently guiding families when needed while leaving plenty of space for real moments to happen naturally.
If you’re planning a family trip to Madrid or simply want to preserve a season of life with the people you love most, I’d love to help you create something meaningful together. You can get in touch through my contact page to start planning your session.
