I was looking forward to this Couple Photo Session in Madrid for two reasons. First, because it gave me the chance to photograph in La Latina, a neighbourhood I had been wanting to explore more. And second, because it was an 8am session, my favourite time of day to photograph (well, one of my favorites!).
I always arrive well before my clients, sometimes more than an hour early, to walk around, see how the light is falling and discover little corners that might inspire the session. Even if I know the location well, I like planning each session on the day itself. There is always something new to notice, whether it's a beautiful doorway, a quiet street or, occasionally, a building under construction that I'd rather avoid (it has happened before!).
Carina and Brian were spending just two days in Madrid before continuing their trip through southern Spain. Brian had organised the session as a surprise for Carina, and I loved hearing that they had done this before during other trips and enjoyed decorating their home with the photographs afterwards. We exchanged a few emails before the session to talk about the atmosphere they were looking for, and La Latina immediately felt like the right choice.
Top 5 Locations for a Dreamy Photoshoot in Madrid
It's one of those neighbourhoods that instantly makes you feel like you're in Madrid, with its charming streets, colourful facades and local cafés. The only disappointment was that their dog couldn't join us this time!
One of the things I love most about early morning sessions is watching the city slowly wake up. Families are taking their children to school, cafés are serving their first coffees of the day and people are heading to work, yet everything still feels calm and unhurried. During summer, it also means enjoying cooler temperatures before the heat arrives, making the whole experience much more comfortable. It was such a lovely morning, and I couldn't have asked for a better way to explore La Latina! Obviously I stayed after the session and went for a coffee at a new-to-me place!
