A Family Photo Session in Madrid can look very different depending on the season, the light, the location and most importantly, the people in front of the camera. This early September session in El Retiro was especially meaningful because, instead of visitors exploring the city for a few days, I had the chance to photograph a lovely Spanish family who actually live in Madrid. It felt like a beautiful reminder that everyday life in this city can be just as magical as a holiday.
We met in the late afternoon, when the light becomes softer and warmer, and followed one of my favourite routes through the park. The children, aged three and seven, were full of energy and curiosity, which made the session feel natural and playful from the very beginning. We took our time, allowing for plenty of snack breaks and spontaneous moments, something I always encourage during family sessions, as it helps everyone relax and simply enjoy the experience together.
As we wandered through the park, we stopped at some of El Retiro’s most iconic spots, including the lake and the impressive Alfonso XII monument. Even though the Palacio de Cristal is currently under renovation, the surrounding area still offers a beautiful atmosphere and open light that make it a perfect place to finish a photo session. By the end of our walk, the children were happily tired, the parents were relaxed, and we had created a collection of genuine family memories in one of Madrid’s most special locations.
