Recently (and when I say recently I mean last December!), I photographed a sweet family with their cute energetic toddler in Retiro Park, one of Madrid’s most iconic and photogenic locations. Lately I have been receiving a lot of inquiries from families with little kids, who are going to be in Madrid for a couple of days. They decide to book their photo session in Madrid as a way of capturing their lovely vacations with a more professional approach. And Retiro works wonderfully for this with families with kids.
It's wide enough to go on a stroll with them, it's interesting for kids, because we can go search for flowers, run after the pigeons, count the turtles and climb trees, it's diverse enough that we don't end up with just photos on a park that could be anywhere else in the world, as we have a few monuments as well and lakes with row boats, and even though it's so iconic, you can still manage to capture some beautiful photos without feeling that it's crowded all around you.

We met in the afternoon to make the most of that soft, golden light of winter days. The little girl was full of energy (as expected!)—so instead of forcing poses, we played, ran around and embraced the chaos. The park was absolutely stunning—trees bursting with yellow leaves and the ground glowing in gold. Fall in Madrid is my favorite time of the year, and sessions in December like this one are pure magic.
I always tell my clients that while I love capturing real, unscripted moments, I’m also there to gently guide them. I’ll help you know where to stand, how to interact and what to do with your hands—so you’ll never feel lost in front of the camera. But the truth is that when you're having a family photo session, your kids help quite a lot in keeping your hands busy!
What if they are throwing tantrums left and right?
We just go with the flow and I always try my very best to find what would be interesting to them. Most of all, I want them to have fun, and when they are having fun, they will be more relaxed, which makes you relaxed and everyone is enjoying themselves. So we get ourselves a win-win situation here!
